High-Security Locks

A high-security lock is mostly about the key. The keyway is restricted, so blanks are controlled, and copies are cut only for the person whose name is on the card.

What makes a lock high-security

  • Restricted keyway: blanks are not sold at hardware stores, so copies go through the locksmith and the card
  • Hardened components: steel inserts in the cylinder and bolt against drilling and sawing
  • Sidebar, rotating-pin, or interactive-key pin designs that need more than a standard pick set
  • Heavier strike and reinforced door prep, fitted with the lock

Who asks for these

Landlords who want to know exactly how many keys exist. Shops with cash on site. Households that have had a break-in or a lost key and want a lock where the copy count is controlled. Offices where one master key opens many doors.

How the key card works

When the lock is installed you receive a card registered to your name. Future copies are cut only when the card is shown. Keep it somewhere you will find it, not on the key ring.

Common questions

Can a high-security cylinder go in my existing lock?

Often yes. Many systems offer cylinders that drop into standard deadbolt and mortise bodies, so the door hardware stays and the cylinder is swapped.

Do you carry specific brands?

Options are discussed on the call based on your door and how many keys you need, and the locksmith fits the cylinder that matches the door.

Is this overkill for an apartment?

Not if you care about who has a key. In a building where old tenants, contractors, and supers have all had copies, a restricted cylinder resets that list.
